It amazes me how often these days you hear about some new infirmity or other. There seems to be lots of interesting psychological names assigned to the various maladies plaguing men, women and children in our times. Unusual diseases, strange deficiencies, all sorts of disorders and phobias abound. And as many new problems that arise, there are equally as many medical attempts at solving them. I think that people would agree that we aren’t exactly winning the battle.
I know that it is not fashionable or popular to think this but it might be worthwhile considering another possible source of many of these problems: devil spirits. This is an option that Jesus Christ did not ignore. It might also be worthwhile considering his success rate in solving the issues that confronted him. When people believed what he taught, the result was always the same:
Matthew 4.24
“…and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”
When you carefully study the records in the Bible concerning the deliverance that Jesus Christ gave to man, it will surprise you how much of it involved devil spirits. I am well aware of the fact that many today do not even think that devil spirits actually exist. In fact most would probably think that what I am saying here is completely laughable. However, I would suggest to you that the opinion of Jesus Christ should be held in much greater esteem than that of anyone who ignores the clear teaching of the Word of God. Might I again remind you of the success rate that Jesus Christ had as opposed to all those who mock the truth of God’s Word.
When the problems that Jesus Christ faced involved devil spirits he immediately removed the cause.
Matthew 12:22
“Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.”
When he commissioned the disciples to go out and deliver people, this is what he said:
Matthew 10:8
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
Now in order for spirits to be cast out, they must exist in the first place. Jesus Christ came to reveal the workings of the devil so that people need no longer be ignorant of his devices. For those who choose to take heed to what the Lord said, the result is deliverance. For those who choose to continue to ignore it: bondage.
I am not suggesting that every infirmity of man involves devil spirits. I am suggesting that it is definitely an option to be considered. If spirits in fact are involved, it would seem to be very wise in understanding how to get rid of them. This will be the subject of the next article.
