All right then, if you really want to know the truth, “I don’t care what you think!” It doesn’t seem to matter what the subject is, everyone’s got an opinion. Most conversations that one gets drawn into generally end in contests of one-up-man-ship. Let me ask you an embarrassing question, “Have you been involved in any conversations lately when at a critical moment of the intercourse, someone actually asked, “Well, what does God have to say about that?” If you have, please send me a post card and let me shake the person’s hand who said that.
You see, the truth of the matter is that very few even take a moment to consider, “Well, I wonder what God thinks about that…” However, if prompted, people generally are quite forward about making statements such as, “I think that this is what God would want.” And all this without ever consulting a Bible. Did you ever hear the statement, “Cleanliness is next to godliness” – I’m sure you have. Actually according to Webster’s it’s next to “cleanly” for certainly the statement doesn’t come from the Bible. How about “God helps those who help themselves.” Maybe the expression should actually be “God helps those who help themselves to make things up”.
How about the area of finances? If you were to ask the question, “What is the best way to gain prosperity?”, what do you think the response might be? One who reads about rich barbers might say, “Put aside 10% of what you make.” Another who reads the Wall Street Journal might say, “You oughta get into stocks, bonds and mutual funds”. A third would steer you to real estate – “You gotta get into real estate”. Well, at this point I must re-iterate my opening statement, “I don’t care what you think!” You see, God’s law of prosperity is tithing. As you give, you receive. Now there’s a statement that’s sure to baffle every mathematician, stock broker and wealthy hair stylist.
The world is full of opinions. According to the scriptures, men and their opinions come and go but the Word of God endures forever. I don’t mean to offend you when I say, “I don’t care what you think”. I really mean it. I’d rather hear what God has to say. If I have the choice of staking my life on the opinions of men or on the truth of God’s Word, the choice is clearer than Seven-Up.
If there was ever anyone who could have had his own opinion on perhaps any matter, it would have to have been the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet, It Is Written,
John 5:30
“I can of mine own self do nothing … I seek not mine own will but the will of the Father which hath sent me”
He was more concerned about God’s opinion than his own. In the midst of the multitudes of opinions in our times, God’s Word still declares that instead of leaning on our own understanding, we are to trust God and acknowledge Him in all our ways.
So if it ever comes up in conversation that you ask me, “Do you wanna know what I think?”, I’m afraid the answer is “No!” But I’d be sure to ask you, “What does the Word say?”
