This teaching takes a look at how in this present evil age, evil is present. This is not something that should be ignored or taken lightly by the believer so that he can be properly sober and vigilant. The end goal of the present evil is to prevent the gospel from being made known. At the root of the evil is the devil, who operates a structured kingdom designed to obstruct the Scriptures and the purposes of God. The believer should recognize that though the final victory has been won in Christ, the kingdom of the devil is still present – with the same purpose: to obstruct the gospel. No believer should be so complacent to think that this evil can be handled without being strong in the lord and the power of his might. Thankfully, the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ as our lord, mediator, shepherd, high priest, etc. is readily available to every believer.
