When reading God’s Word, it is very important for every believer to understand the work of Jesus Christ and all that he has accomplished. Many times we can read truths written in a different time (or administration) and try to apply them directly to our lives. This teaching only uses Psalms as an example of this. What Jesus Christ has accomplished provides greater blessings than man has every enjoyed before (including the time when the Psalms were written). Jesus Christ provided justification from things from which the Law of Moses could not; he had a more excellent ministry built upon better promises; he was the mediator of a better covenant and he made available the new birth spirit which was better than anything ever available before. Because of all these truths (and many more from the Church Epistles addressed directly to the Christian), we have to be careful to read the rest of God’s Word (including the Psalms) via the filter of what has been written to us today. Some examples of this are shown from the Book of Psalms. The promises in the Old Testament and Gospels are wonderful and we can learn so much from them, however, we need to understand the greater blessings that were made available due to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
