The main doctrinal sections of the church epistles to the First Century Church always lead to a practical section where God exhorts us to now walk in light of all that has been accomplished on our behalf by Jesus Christ. Part of this walk is the ability to live a life that is mentally clear from any burdens, a walk that is free from mental clutter. The exhortation in the Scriptures is to put away those traits that may impact our worship and walk with our Father God. Because of all that we have been given, we are asked to walk without anger, malice, jealousy, envy, etc. and so many of the things that can rob us of a joyful walk. We are told to forgive just as we have been forgiven by Jesus Christ. There just is no room in the walk of a Christian to carry mental burdens of any kind whether it be bitterness, envy, lack of forgivenes or the like. What a blessing we can enjoy if we walk clear of all that sort of mental clutter. Jesus Christ’s teaching to his disciples was full of encouragement to walk with a new kind of love that leaves no room for these mental burdens, a walk that would honor our Father God. We are exhorted to do this not because it would earn more of God’s love but because we already have it. We’ve already been given all spiritual blessings and the exhortation is to walk by putting on the new man in light of all these blessings.
