In Galatians, the Word of God states that by the work of Jesus Christ, the world is dead to us and we are dead to the world. When a person is born again of the spirit, there is a radical change for the believer has a new master, a new purpose and a new citizenship in the heavenlies. Along with this change, it is incumbent for a Christian to recognize that all that the world meant prior to the new birth, it no longer has the same relevance. In fact, the Scriptures encourage the believer to not love the world or the the things of the world. The reason for this that is prevalent throughout the epistles is that the world and all the things that are in it are going to pass away whereas we are destined for eternity. The encouragement for the believer is to set his or her affection on the things above for our real life is hid with Christ in God. We are dead to the world and the world is dead to us. For us then to understand and recognize the importance of our new life is to understand and know all that Christ is to us.
