The will of God (whether received from the Word of God or by revelation) has been of utmost importance to the state of man since mankind has existed. Biblical history (and thus, world history) is full of men, women and nations being confronted with God’s will. Examples of this are Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Mary, Joseph, Jesus Christ, the apostles, etc. In many cases those involved did what God’s will required, in other cases they did not. As is the case with believers today, many times ones personal desire will not align with the will of God. Both Jesus Christ and Paul the Apostle are looked at in this teaching as examples of this. Once a person has received the spirit of God, he or she now has access to a new leading in life. That leading may or may not align with that persons own will or desire at times. It is not always easy, convenient or fashionable to follow the will of God. However, there is never a better option than following God’s will. Thankfully because of the spirit that we have received, God actually works in us both to will (to have the desire) and to do (to accomplish) His will. Because of our identification with Jesus Christ, we are not left to our own devices and struggles in trying to do what is right.
