The second chapter of the Book of James talks about how faith (believing) is only vital and living if it is accompanied by corresponding works. Living faith is that kind of faith that Rahab the innkeeper had when she hid the spies Joshua had sent because she had reverence for the God of Israel. It is that sort of faith that Abraham had when he was willing to sacrifice his only son Isaac in obedience to God. We have been given a solid foundation by the work of Jesus Christ on which to live our lives. It is up to us whether the faith that we have is just going to be a theoretical faith (one without works) or one that is active and vital (with works that correspond to our obedience and reverence for God).
