It is extremely important for believers to understand the exalted position of Jesus Christ. Since it is sometimes difficult to understand the depth of what we have received by virtue of the work of Christ, God provides physical examples to assist us. The life of Joseph in Egypt is a type of the work and position of Jesus Christ. As Joseph was exalted to second in command of Egypt, so too was Jesus exalted to be God’s second in command. What is interesting to note is that when Joseph was exalted, not only did he receive an incredible amount of authority but his family and people benefited greatly as well. They were provided with the best of Egypt according to the instructions of Pharoah. Likewise, those who have believed on Jesus Christ have been made joint heirs with him. They have been glorified with the risen Christ and will share in his coming glory as well. The Scriptures declare that all of creation is looking forward with outstretched neck to the manifestation (revealing) of the sons of God – not just Jesus Christ, but all the “sons” of God, and this includes all those who have believed on him. We will share in the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Due to these amazing realities, we should continue to recognize that we are dead to this world and our real life is hid in Christ and we ought to do our utmost to seek those things that are above where he is, at the right hand of God.
