This teaching examines the two kinds of godliness mentioned in God’s Word. One is based on religion and the outward show of the flesh, the other on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and its inherent power. The motivation behind each kind of godliness is very different: religion seeks to please people, true godliness (that vital spiritual relationship with God) seeks to please God. The power that God wrought in the resurrection of Jesus Christ is tied to true godliness, whereas the false or “form of godliness” of religion denies that same power. We are encouraged to develop and grow in godliness by taking regular heed to the Scriptures that brought us salvation in the first place. This work will pay dividends not only in this life but also in the one ahead.
