The Word of God tells us that God’s mercies are new every morning – that mercy is always available from a loving and merciful God. He showed forth this mercy in the ministry of the Messiah. Jesus Christ is referred to in Romans as the mercy seat that God put forward to deal with the sins that were against man, to provide redemption. This is a reference to the mercy seat in the Old Testament which Moses was instructed to make as part of the worship in the tabernacle. It was the place between the cherubims where God would meet with His people, a place of entrance and fellowship. As such, Jesus Christ is the savior that God provided as a way to meet with man, to provide His people with full access to Him and to have fellowship with Him. Additionally, since in the lord we have an ever abiding high priest, we have also been given access to mercy and grace whenever we are in a time of need.
