Continuing in the series on all that Jesus Christ has accomplished for the believer, this teaching looks at the subject of the peace that the Lord made available by his walk. Because of Adam’s disobedience in the Garden, there was a separation between God and man. What had been wonderful fellowship had been disrupted. Though there was peace available in the Old Testament, the Scriptures spoke of the coming of a Messiah who was referred to as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah). At the birth of John the Baptist, a prophecy declared that John would make the paths straight for the coming Messiah who would lead us into the “the way of peace”. At the birth of Jesus Christ, the angels declared “on earth peace and good will toward men”. This peace was not an absence of war but something far greater. When the Lord spoke with his disciples he told them to not be troubled, that he would send a comforter and that he would give them peace that was not like the peace that the world gives. He spoke of the abode that God and he would make within them. The giving of holy spirit was what would give them the peace that the world could not give. With the accomplishments of Jesus Christ and the availability of the new birth by holy spirit, a complete peace was now possible for man. It was peace between Judean and Gentile, it was peace for all believers with God and it was a peace on the inside that could not be disturbed by the tribulation and pressures of this age. “For he is our peace …” (Ephesians 2:14).
