Noah lived in a very dark time, so much so that God’s only solution to the evil state of the world was a flood. When Noah was given this information, he did not react with shock but fully accepted what God told him. Additionally, he built the ark, gathered the animals, prepared their food, etc. just as God showed him to do it. He also let the people know that a judgment was surely coming. However, from all accounts, no one believed him.
The lessons that we can learn on listening to God from Noah are:
- No matter how startling or unbelievable the information might be; if God is the source – it is reliable, good and important and ought not to be ignored
- The state of the world has nothing to do with God being able to give information
- Do exactly what God says – do not add, do no subtract, do not change
- Listening to God does not mean the world will listen to you; our job is to remain faithful to information that we know is critical, good and reliable: the worlds response may be ambivalence, ours is to be faithfulness – are we willing to be faithful regardless of the results?
