This teaching looks at the main motivation that Paul embraced in his life – the hope of the return of Jesus Christ. From the moment that he was called by the Lord Jesus to the end of his ministry he had his eyes fixed to that sure hope of Christ’s return. Early in his ministry he was shown what was coming up ahead though he was told not to write it down (this was later done by John in the Book of Revelation). He understood that all that the world held was not even worthy to be compared with the knowledge of Christ Jesus. His life was hid with Christ in God and he continued as he preached the gospel to better understand that high calling. He understood that he was dead to the world and that everything the world had to offer was dead to him. With the anticipation and eager expectation of the return of Jesus Christ, he chose to forget those things that were behind and to reach unto those things that were before, to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. His example is a great lesson for every Christian believer.
