This teaching looks at the event known as “The Ascension of Christ”. Most Christians believe that this event took place 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is recorded in the book of Acts. However, when you look closely at the records in Acts, you will note that the event is referred to as Jesus being “taken up”. The Scriptures make a distinction between the ascension, and the “taking up” of Jesus. When Jesus spoke to Mary the day after his resurrection (on Sunday morning), he told her that he would be ascending imminently – not 40 days later. He also told her that she could not touch him because he had to present himself to his Father first. However, that same day, in the evening, he appeared to the disciples and let them touch him. Therefore, by simple logic, we can determine that the ascension had to take place sometime between his appearance to Mary and that evening. This teaching next considers what the resurrection did for Jesus Christ, and why he had to ascend the day after his resurrection.
