Jesus Christ is referred to in the Word of God as the firstborn of God’s creation. Obviously this is not referring to the creation account of Genesis since he was not born until much later. Instead the Scriptures compare the first man Adam to the second man, Jesus Christ. Whereas the work of Adam led to condemnation for all of mankind, the work of Jesus Christ brought mankind freedom from the bondage of sin. God has set in motion a wonderful plan with the resurrection of His son that has ramifications for ages to come. We are told that as we have born the image of the earthy, Adam, we will definitely also bare the image of the heavenly, Jesus Christ. The body that we now have is referred to in terms such as corrupt, dishonorable, weak, mortal and natural. The body that we are promised will be incorruptible, glorious, powerful, immortal and spiritual. Jesus Christ was the firstborn, the firstfruits by virtue of his resurrection, all those who believe in him will the harvest to follow.
