There are certain misunderstandings about the comfort that is promised by God in His Word. Some believe that it is a comfort that implies “everything will always be alright” or that “God is in control”. The former sentiment is not necessarily certain and the latter implies destiny. As in all things related to God it is best to adhere strictly to what the Word of God says concerning the truth that God is the God of all comfort. This comfort has many aspects and manifestations. Notably it is based on the truth that God is with us wherever we go and because of that we do not have to ever be afraid. The comfort of God is manifested in our lives by His Word as well since the Scriptures are authored by the God of all comfort. It only follows that His Word too brings comfort. The Lord Jesus Christ said that he takes our burdens and that if we are yoked with him there is rest to our souls. We should not be surprised by this since he is the only begotten son of the God of all comfort. In speaking of the spirit that is given to everyone who makes Jesus their Lord and believes that God has raised him from the dead, Jesus Christ said that it would be the comforter. It is no wonder that speaking in tongues provides rest and refreshing – not to mention that it is the certainty that God is always with us. There is no guarantee given by God of an easy life without troubles – however, in spite of these attacks the comfort of God is assured by His Word, the work of Jesus Christ and the spirit that has been given to every believer.
