Prayer gets work done and at the same time is work itself. We are told in the Scriptures that the prayers of a righteous man are powerful and effective. It does not matter if our emotions are not always in line with what God has made us to be In Christ, we are still righteous and our prayers are effective. Prayer is work and that is fine because it can be a struggle to pray due to the antagonism of the world that is constantly leveled against us. Words like striving, without ceasing, laboring, fervent, etc. all make sense with regards to prayer when we recognize that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. We need to recognize that our prayers are heard and they are effective even if it may not seem so at times. Two records from the Book of Daniel are examined in this teaching that illustrate the spiritual nature of prayer.
