When holy spirit was first made available at Pentecost, Jesus Christ told the apostles to wait or tarry until it came. After it was given, there was no more tarrying necessary. The indication that they had received holy spirt at Pentecost was that they could speak in tongues. However, the gift of holy spirit that was given was not limited to speaking in tongues. The Scriptures tell us that there nine manifestations available to very believer. When the spirit is received, a believer has everything he or she will ever need to operate all of the manifestations. The believer will not be getting any more holy spirit, he is alreadly enabled by the one gift to operate all of the manifestations. What’s more, there is no tarrying necessary to operate any of the manifestations for the spiritual ability is received at the exact moment that a person is born again. Certainly spiritual growth and maturity take time, however, the ability to operate the spirit is latent in the gift at the time of the new birth. All that is required in order to operate the gift is believing. So if the Scriptures say that something is possible and all we have to have is faith as small as a mustard seed in order to receive it, what if we do not receive it? Has God rescinded any of His promises? Clearly not. We need to do what is required in order to get to that small amount of believing that is necessary to receive what He has promised. If all we do is hope that we will someday be able to believe and do nothing about attaining that goal, we will not see what the Scriptures promise.
