When God gives His word, you can be sure that it will certainly come to pass just as He says it will. Once we have His word, it does not mean that there is nothing for us to do. The record of Joshua and the Children of Israel entering the Promised Land is a good example of this. God gave Joshua His word and then told him three times that he needed to be brave and courageous to walk on that word. He also told him to not be afraid since God said that He would be with Joshua wherever he went. Once we have God’s word, we need to live with full expectation that it will absolutely come to pass. This will take work on our part to ensure that we continue to keep that word in our heart and not allow it to be stolen away. To mediate on His word, to keep it in our mind will take bravery and courage since the world at large is antagonistic to the things of God. The record in Hebrews 11 also provides another wonderful exhortation for us to have great expectancy for God’s word to come to pass. The believers mentioned in that chapter were able to stand faithfully because of the greater promises they had for things yet to come. Due to their expectancy of the future promises, they were able to endure and expect God’s word to come to pass throughout their lives. In some cases they conquered by their faith, in others they suffered greatly. However, in both cases their expectancy based on God’s word was high and for that reason, the world was not worthy of their stand for God. Based on the promises of the future that we have been given, we ought to have great expectation that God’s word will come to pass, both for the circumstances of our daily lives and for the life to come.
