I know that some of you who read this are probably going to laugh. Some of you might even think that I’ve lost one marble too many. Despite that I’ve just got to ask you this question: “Have you ever glanced into the sky to see if anyone was flying down to take you away?” Every once in a while, we get those quiet moments – you know, maybe you’re waiting for the waitress to make change, maybe you’re stopped at a red light or maybe you’re just sitting on a park bench. Whatever the situation, have you ever just taken a quick glimpse upwards?
It’s a plane! It’s a bird! Well actually it’s a promise. When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven a promise was given. It Is Written in the Book of Acts:
Act 1:9-11
“And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
And there it is. The promise was given – that the Lord would some day return. More details were later given to the Apostle Paul.
I Cor 15:51, 52
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
The Bible declares that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back to gather his people. Despite the contrary declarations and actions of some, the scriptures state that no man knows the hour of the Lord’s return. It could be tonight or it could be years from now. The truth is that without a doubt he will return.
So what happens when he comes back? Well for those who believe on the Lord the answer is quite simple. We will be gathered together to meet the Lord in the air – Air Canada strikes notwithstanding. We will then be given new bodies. The body we now have will be changed into a spiritual body like that of the Lord. No more pains. No more tears. No more sorrow. And away we’ll go. If that doesn’t make you want to glance up every now and then I don’t know what will.
So the next time you find yourself with a quiet moment or two, tilt your head up a bit. The change you get might not be what the waitress has gone to get.
