People generally like to be praised or acknowledged for ideas they have developed or invented. If there is one thing that I can openly say about all the videos on BibleHarbor – none of the ideas presented are from the minds of the presenters: they all come from the Bible. God is the sole originator of truth. He is the only one who should be praised for anything presented.
People have a lot of opinions about God: some say he likes this or that, or he does this or that. There is only one question worth asking when it comes to what God thinks or does not think, and that is, “Have You Read Your Bible?”
Many times the opinions that people express about God are based on hearsay or popular misconceptions. The only reliable source for what is actually true or not is the Bible – the work that he authored to make himself known. Unfortunately, there are many people who profess to be Christians who have never read their Bible. If the Bible is the basis for your current life and the one to come, don’t you think you should at least read it? I know that many are content just to hear sermons and teachings from others – and that’s certainly a blessing. However, the onus is always on you to understand what the Bible says for yourself, and the only way to do that is to read it.
Near the end of his life – after he had ministered on the earth, Jesus Christ made the following statement in a prayer to God,
John 17:14, 17
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world … Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. [KJV]
Jesus Christ had given them the words that God had given to him. It is one of the key characteristics of the ministry of Jesus Christ – he gave them God’s Word.
Today, we are privileged and blessed to have God’s Word readily available. It used to be quite difficult in certain parts of the world even to have a Bible – and it perhaps still is. However, for the most part, it’s pretty easy to get a copy of the Bible. Despite that, in many cases, it continues to be dust-covered.
Even in Christian churches, sometimes, church history, tradition, or the prevalent thinking of society takes precedence over the Scriptures. This ought never to be the case. Everything that a Christian believes is to be based completely on the Bible. If you call yourself a Christian, then you ought to know what the Scriptures say. I am not saying you should be an expert in every area of the Bible – but at the very least, have read it all the way through. Then, when you are discussing the significant and important issues of life, if someone asks you, have you read your Bible? – you can say, well, as a matter of fact, I have.
