This teaching considers the very important topic of watching what comes out of our mouths. There is much in the Scriptures concerning the tongue. For example, in Proverbs 18:21 we read, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Now that is a pretty remarkable sentiment! It’s clear that what we say can lead us in one direction or the other. We are held accountable for the words that we speak. Christianity starts with a very simple confession (Romans 10:9) but one that brings tremendous benefits: eternal life, all spiritual blessings, a living hope, righteousness, peace, etc. – all because we dared to confess a few words. In James, we can read about the power of the tongue. It tells us that a small bit turns a powerful horse, and a small rudder a mighty ship. Likewise, the tongue is small member but if properly controlled according to God’s wisdom from above, it can turn the course of our entire body. The application of this to healing is very straight-forward:
- What does our mouth do when it comes to sickness and disease? Do I confess and agree with the Word OR do I speak of pain and take ownership?
- Do I say, “This usually takes this amount of time” OR get out in the name of Jesus Christ!
- Do I enjoy telling others about my symptoms OR By his stipes I was healed? It’s not saying “I have no pain or sickness” (lie), it is confessing the wisdom from above (Isaiah 53, healed in redemption, Jesus took all our sin and sickness)
Your mouth can turn your whole body!!! (despite the size of the problem or the storms around it) – as long as it is speaking the wisdom from above. E.W. Kenyon wrote, “A positive confession dominates circumstances”. We ought to watch what we say.
